The days following our visit to the Algonquin Park were spent at our friends cottage located on Georgian Bay. This large bay, 190 km in length by 80 km wide, is part of Lake Huron. The bay waters are among the clearest in the Great Lakes basin and St. Lawrence River.
The north-eastern coast of the bay is dotted with more than 30,000 islands. Some are occupied by one or more cottages that are only accessible by boat. These cottages are owned by people who come from across Canada, the US and even Europe and are frequented only a few weeks or months a year.
I got up early on the first morning and I walked around the cottage to take pictures with the beautiful morning light. Georgian Bay is located in the heart of the Canadian Shield. The pine wood is very dense and rocks are of a wild beauty. / Our favorite activity is to jump in the clear waters of the lake at sunrise. The water temperature was around 23C, so a little fresh on entering, but very comfortable after a few minutes. Pierre loves to swim so he always goes many times during the day when we visit this place. / Another of our favourite activities is a boat ride to explore the bay. The weather was a bit iffy so we only did a short outing. Maybe I will dip into our archives to show you more pictures of this beautiful bay! / The quiet days at the water’s edge always end in style with a beautiful sunset.

Lovely captures of beautiful nature. Reminds me of my home in Northern Europe. That sunset is gorgeous!
Suzanne et Pierre said:
Thanks Tiny. You are right that Northern Canada has a lot of similarities with Northern Europe…I do love that sunset image…

There is no place anywhere like Georgian Bay. These fabulous photos take me there! Some of my best summer ‘souvenirs’ are in this cottage country. Maybe next year… 🙂

Thanks Mel. We also love this area very much and have been a number of time. Our friends have a cottage on an island off of Parry Sound. It is absolutely lovely. So glad it brought back some nice memories…
By the way, I went back to our archives so there will be more pictures taken in this area coming up next week…

What an idyllic tranquil spot Suzanne – how lovely you could stay in your friends’ cottage! I think I saw this area featured on one of those travel and property shows once – I think it featured Sarah Richardson? Anyway she and her husband had designed and built a gorgeous cottage on an island somewhere in the north eastern Canada area and you could only reach it by boat. Wherever it was it looked an amazing place to stay as Georgian Bay does. Look forward to seeing more of your photos of this gorgeous area! 🙂

Thanks Rosemary. It is entirely possible that this region was featured in a home show as it is popular with the rich and famous as it is possible to buy an island where you are on your own. It is indeed a gorgeous area and we love it there. We went regularly when we lived in Toronto but it will be more difficult to go often now that we lived in Montreal as it is much further.
I have indeed gone back to our archives and selected 10 more pictures to show you. The post will probably be published on Monday…so stay tuned.

I certainly will do Suzanne – I’m sure it must be the same place that I saw featured on the home show as that was near Toronto I’ll look forward to your photos! 🙂

Georgian Bay is fairly large. The section I am showing is in the northern part about 3 hours drive from Toronto.

Suzanne,, next time you will have to plan a visit to our part of Georgian Bay. Your pictures look so familiar. We are enjoying having our grandson up here for a week without his parents! He is going to camp at the same camp Jess went to when he was little. Nathaniel loves the water too, just like Pierre – Nathaniel said it was “refreshing”! I think it’s cold but stay in anyway to keep him company.Best to you and Pierre from both Ted and me.

Thanks Julia. Sorry we didn’t have to make it to your section of Georgian Bay…simply ran out of time. I don’t know if we will be back often as it is much further from Montreal and can’t easily be done in a weekend like we use to do when we lived in Toronto.
Glad to hear you are enjoying your grandson’s visit…
