To survive the heatwave in Chicago during the first day of our stay, we used public transit (efficient and air-conditioned!) on several occasions to move from one place to another. With the idea of visiting little less known places, we spent some time in the Lower East Side and Pilsen, a neighbourhood dominated mainly by the Hispanic community. You can also find many murals. The intense heat of the afternoon however limited our ardour and we quickly returned to the city centre in the air-conditioned metro. We continued by bus to the north of downtown for a stop at Oak Street Beach. We thought we would find some cool air on the shores of Lake Michigan, but it’s rather a blazing sun that greeted us! We continued our visit with a stroll on the “fashionable” Astor Street (sorry, no pictures …)
Two days later, a cold front had passed and the weather was much cooler. Leaving Chicago toward the west, we made a stop at Oak Park to revisit the magnificent residences designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in the early 20th century.

Interesting!
Thanks Sue. Glad you enjoyed our quick exploration of a few Chicago neighbourhood. We would have liked to have had more time to explore more but it will be for next time.
So you’ll be back!
We certainly hope so though we will fly next time instead of driving like we did this year. We have friends in the region so it is an incentive to go back sooner than later.
Sounds like a good plan!
enjoyed the sightseeing especially the Frank Lloyd Wright buildings
Thanks Diana. We quite like the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright… He was an amazing architect. Glad you enjoyed this series.
What wonderful street art you found! I especially love that owl — though the “foot and mouth” clinic sign is quite amusing too. Lovely shots, as always!
Thanks Heidi. It was indeed a nice area for street art. We probably would have found more if we had explored more but it was so hot that we gave up quite quickly. Glad you enjoyed this series.
I did not know about Oak Park, i’ve only seen FLW buildings in isolation, so looked it up – so many magnificent homes in one area! I would love to visit.
Thanks Anabel. Oak Park is truly worth a visit. You can also visit one house where he lived. We didn’t this time around but we had in 2001. Amazing house. The other ones in the neighbourhood are all still inhabited so you can’t visit them except for the exterior. They are truly amazing.
The Wright home is on my bucket list for a visit. I think you captured the city well.
Thanks Jacqui. Wright home is well worth a visit in Oak Park as well as the exterior of the other ones he has built in the area. Glad you enjoyed this series.
