We are back with a new series of photos from India where we spent 26 days, from October 17 to November 11, 2019. It was a two-part trip: first, a 12-day group tour with a guide to visit North-East India, followed by a 14-day solo exploration of Rajasthan.
Our adventures began in Kolkata, West Bengal. This is not the usual gateway to discover India, but the tour we chose started here. Kolkata, the third largest city in India, is like other Indian cities: chaotic, noisy, dilapidated, effervescent. Needless to say, it’s confusing after a trip of over 30 hours. All our senses were very busy while walking the streets around our hotel. For Suzanne, it was a return to sensations experienced during her previous visits to India (2010-2012 for work) and for Pierre it was the shock of discovery. Our first stroll lasted only a few hours before joining our group to get acquainted and learn more on the program for the next 12 days.
For the first day with the group, we visited Mother Teresa’s House and the flower market (photos later), made a crossing of the Hooghly on an old boat and visited the Victoria Memorial (museum on Kolkata history). Our stay in Kolkata was too short; we keep only a whirlwind of impressions of this dense city that opened the door to a fascinating country.
We were still a little dizzy by the long journey and the time difference but happy to be discovering new horizons.

Merci Marie.

Very pleased to see our intrepid travelling photographers on a new adventure! Looking forward to discovering a new region through your lenses.
Suzanne et Pierre said:
Thanks Mel. Glad you enjoyed this new series. I don’t know if we are that intrepid but we certainly like to travel. Eliza said above that we didn’t let moss grow under our feet and that is very true.

I need to know what the scented vest smelled like!
Suzanne et Pierre said:
Thanks Ainslie…not certain I understand what you mean by scented vest so can’t really tell you what it smelled.
Suzanne et Pierre said:
OK. Pierre saw what I couldn’t see and that your keen eyes had seen. In the first photo, they advertize a scented vest and I must admit that we didn’t see one in real life so I can’t tell you what it smelled like but it is an interesting idea…

Indeed Kolkata isn’t that ‘famous’, at least as far as India trips go, but I’m glad you guys went there first. I’d love to see it one day.
Suzanne et Pierre said:
Thanks for your note. We are also happy that we started in Kolkata. From there we went to Darjeeling & Sikkim, two other places that are mostly visited by Indian Tourists but which are very interesting and would deserve more focus.

So, are you two ever at home?!
Suzanne et Pierre said:
Thanks Anabel. As Eliza said above, we don’t let moss grow under our feet… but I could say the same thing of you as you are always gallivanting somewhere! And we do spend time at home more than it seems…
