As Crete is an island, there are many beaches, but many are pebble, as is often the case around the Mediterranean. However, there are a few exceptions with superb pink sand beaches dotting the west coast. Elafonssi beach is probably the prettiest in Crete with its pink sand and the wilderness that surrounds it. On this first of March, it wasn’t very crowded but we could imagine that it is a very popular place in summer. The beach of Fallasarma is also very pretty and very long; it is a little more developed but still retains a very pleasant wild side. But in summer this beach is very crowded.

I love the first and the ninth photos. That lone tree is fabullous. The ninth photo looks like a piece of abstract art with its gradients of colour. Where are the feet?
Thanks Jacqui. Always like it when you pick your favourites. We forgot to do the feet; it was quite windy and not so warm so we didn’t of taking our shoes off. The tradition has been broken…
Beautiful series, Suzanne. The tree with its shadow is gorgeous and I love the pink tide line and composition in the fourth image. All of them are inviting and peaceful images.
Thanks Jane. It was indeed a very inviting beach and so quiet in this first day of March. Glad you enjoyed the series.
I felt very nostalgic about beaches, looking at your lovely pictures.
Thanks for your note. I totally agree with you. I would much rather being on a beach right now than at home…
I visited Crete in 1980 and one of the things I remember was the crystal clear water – it was amazing how deep you could see.
Thanks Eliza. The Mediterranean always amazes me by its colours and its clear water. Every time I find myself beside it I am reminded of the beauty of the water… glad you enjoyed this series.
Ahh the sea…my favourite place on earth!
I haven’t been to Crete yet but maybe one day I’ll get there…
Your photos are beautiful. I still think that Australia holds the best beaches. 😉
Thanks for your note. I do love the sea and beaches a lot and you are totally right that Australia has the best beaches ever… And Crete is well worth a visit if you ever get a chance.
magnifique série Bravo
Merci Alexandros.
Oh yes, just marvellous. We took our cars to the Elafonissi island on a little ferry and we slept on the island. In the morning a group of locals gathered and were watching us sleep. I went to talk to them. They congratulated us to choose their village to sleep in. 😀
Thanks for your note. Elafonissi was indeed one of the beautiful beaches of Crete.
