Between our multiple visits to the beach we also strolled through the historic heart of Playa del Carmen. This city was a small fishing port which was gradually converted into a resort for foreign tourists. Among the tall buildings, you can sometimes find the charm of the small village with its square and colourful houses. The murals are present on several large walls and the old quay of the avenue Constituyentes offers beautiful photographic opportunities at sunset.

Thanks for your note. Playa del Carmen has many interesting areas. Some of the resort development along the beach aren’t great but there are still some areas with Mexican charms.

Absolutely beautiful! Each photo is delightful but they also work well together as a series.

Thanks Mel. Glad you enjoyed this series. I am also glad you noticed that they work well together. I always try to select the pictures so they will tell a story…

When it comes to Mexico and South American countries, I am always struck by how colourful they are. Why are all our buildings dull and grey. Surely, we could add colour here too and it would be a mood lifter! The fruit market phot is an ideal example.

Thanks Jacqui. I have always wondered the same things. I don’t really understand why our cities are so drab. There was a new development near where we live and the promoters decided to do the external siding in gray & black aluminum. I was thinking that it would have been nice to have bright colours instead…We don’t seem to be able to be bold and use colours to beautify our towns. Glad you enjoyed this series…

The murals are great, but I’m more intrigued by the posts marching towards the sea and the sculpture at the end. Both beautiful.

Thanks Anabel. I am not certain what the pillars were used for except as maybe a decoration. We couldn’t go onto the pier so we couldn’t see them up close. As for the sculpture, the picture only shows the upper part but I liked it this way as they seem to be floating in the sky…

So often all that people see when they visit Playa del Carmen are the beach and resorts. The town is very cute and colourful away from the modern resorts. Thanks for showing us this side 😊 Maggie

Thanks for your note. We love to explore so it was obvious for us that we needed to walk the streets of Playa del Carmen outside of the 5th Avenue. It was fun and we truly enjoyed the city though it is changing fast with lots of condo towers going up.

Your photos take me there. I particularly like the ruined or almost ruined older houses. I agree with all the comments on the quality of your photos and organization. Thoughtful, beautiful!

Thanks for your note. I am glad you enjoyed this new series and that you like our photos. Playa del Carmen is a nice town but changing fast. The ruined house was located between two new condo towers so I imagine that it will disappear soon…
