It’s the big day for Machu Picchu! A bus that takes us to the site makes the long climb on a slightly crazy road on the mountainside. Upon arrival on the site, the weather is simply splendid! The first stop of the tour is the highest point for the classic view of Machu Picchu. The sun is still low and illuminates the ruins and the rocky peak in the back in a beautiful way. It’s bigger than you can imagine from the photos. Moreover, the place is surrounded by steep mountains covered with vegetation. At this early hour, the mountains appear mysterious. Machu Picchu seems in a jewel case. After that, the actual visit begins. Our guide for the morning, Patricia, gives us enough explanation to understand the meaning of Machu Picchu but she also allows enough time for taking pictures.
The visit circuit is one-way which sometimes creates traffic jams given the narrowness of the passages. There is admiration to watch how, with little technical means, the Incas managed to build structures that have withstood the ravages of time. In all, the visit lasted 3h30 which is more than enough. We left delighted with our visit.

Amazing! Thanks for showing us these wonders.
Thanks Sue. Glad you enjoyed this new series. Machu Picchu is an amazing place.
Wow, what a gorgeous cerulean sky! You had a perfect day. Forty-plus years of excavations/restorations has really expanded the site. Beautiful photos – I esp. love the early morning mountain shadows.
Thanks Eliza. Yes, we had the perfect day and it was an amazing site. I don’t know what was excavated recently but I am assuming that they continue to work on the site.
Magnificent! Really must get there some day.
Thanks Anabel. Yes, it is truly a must see site. The pictures provide a good idea but there is nothing like being there.
Thanks for the tour. My favourite photo in this group is the second one. Even with the shadows, the textures are beautiful.
Thanks Jacqui. I know you have been waiting for this series and I am glad you enjoyed it. The day was perfect and the sun on the mountains was very interesting.
Magnifique
Merci Françoise. C’est effectivement un endroit magnifique. Sa réputation n’est pas surfaite.
