We are back from a 3-month trip which began on November 23, 2022 with a few days in Santiago before embarking on a three-week cruise in the southern seas with stops in the Falkland Islands, South Georgia and the Antarctica Peninsula. On returning from the cruise, we criss-crossed Chile from south to north to south in addition to a one-week getaway to Argentina. So we have a lot of photos to show you and adventures to tell you.
We chose the ultimate experience for our first cruise ever and we weren’t disappointed. We left Punta Arenas (Chile) via the Strait of Magellan before finding ourselves on the high seas towards the Falkland Islands. After almost 2 days at sea, we landed on Westpoint Island, one of the 700 islands that make up the Falklands. This island enchanted us for its beauty that reminded us of Scotland as well as for the birds we saw (next post). It was windy (it’s normal!) but, well dressed, the hike of more than 3 hours that took us across the island was most enjoyable. By the way, gorse isn’t endemic to the Falklands but it is now well established and provides shelter for several species of birds.

Another wonderful adventure! The Falklands are ruggedly beautiful– great photos!
Thanks Eliza. It was indeed a great adventure and we fell in love with the Falklands though the wind were so strong as to be a bit oppressive.
I am excited to see the photos from all your travels. These have whet my appetite for sure.
Thanks Jacqui. There will be a lot of pictures as we were away for 3 months and visited many places. But this first stage of our trip was the highlight. We thoroughly enjoyed the cruise.
Oh wow! Falklands looks so rugged and beautiful! Maggie
Thanks Maggie. It was indeed and it is also sparsely inhabited so there is a lot of wildlife.
You know what, yesterday I was actually thinking about you because you hadn’t posted anything for months. I was wondering if you were in fact traveling. Now I know this was true, and you went to some really fascinating places! Can’t wait to see and read more about what you saw the past three months.
Thanks Bama for your note. We were indeed away for 3 months and it was great and we have lots of pictures and stories to share. The cruise was the highlight of this trip…Glad you have enjoyed this first post.
These are beautiful photos. I look forward to seeing the rest of your amazing journey!
Thanks for your note. It was an incredible journey and we have lots to share.
Wow, what an adventure! This island looks lovely, and the gorse is so colourful. I see what you mean about reminding you of Scotland.
Thanks Anabel. It was indeed an adventure and the experience of a lifetime. There will obviously be more posts in the coming weeks as we took tons of pictures.
These are amazing images .
Thanks for your note. Glad you enjoyed this series.
This is an amazing adventure. We should add this to our list . Thanks Anita
Thanks. I would highly recommend a cruise in these regions. It is expensive but well worth it. There will be many more posts on this cruise so you will be able to get a good idea of what there is to see.
I’ve never been on a cruise either. What a cool destination! Beautiful pics, but I especially love the contrast of the blue wood with the intense yellow gorse.
Thanks Mel. Glad you enjoyed this series. I also quite like the picture you mentioned. As for the cruise, we enjoyed our first experience and we will probably do other cruises but only on small vessel and when it is in remote places…
Magnifique:)
Merci Françoise. Effectivement c’était magnifique…bien contente que tu as aimé ces photos.
Wow… beautiful landscape!!
Thanks for your note. It was indeed beautiful. We truly enjoyed our limited time on the Falklands.
