Après l’Inde du sud, nous avons continué notre périple asiatique vers le Sri Lanka. Premier arrêt : Negombo, la cité balnéaire au nord de Colombo où la plupart des visiteurs commencent leur voyage. On ne peut pas dire que la plage principale de Negombo est très belle; mais, le dimanche soir de notre arrivée, une foule assez dense s’y était donné rendez-vous pour voir le coucher de soleil. C’était une entrée en matières assez sympathique au Sri Lanka. Le lendemain matin, la plage avait retrouvé un peu de sa tranquilité et les quelques opérateurs de bateaux traditionnels étaient à la recherche de clients pour des excursions en mer. Dans la vieille section de Negombo, nous avons aussi visité le marché de poissons traditionnel, très actif le matin, mais aussi très odorant! Comme en Inde, nous avons trouvé la population locale sympathique et facile d’approche. Et fidèle à sa réputation, nous avons pu constater comment le Sri Lanka est un pays à la végétation luxuriante.
After southern India, we continued our Asian journey towards Sri Lanka. First stop: Negombo, the seaside town north of Colombo where most visitors begin their journey. We can’t say that the main beach of Negombo is very beautiful; but, on the Sunday evening of our arrival, a fairly dense crowd had gathered there to see the sunset. It was a pretty nice introduction to Sri Lanka. The next morning, the beach had regained some of its tranquility and the few operators of traditional boats were looking for customers for sea excursions. In the old section of Negombo, we also visited the traditional fish market, very active in the morning, but also very fragrant! As in India, we found the local population friendly and easy to approach. And true to its reputation, we were able to see how the vegetation in Sri Lanka is lush.
